CE 3354 Engineering Hydrology

Catalog Description

CE 3354: Engineering Hydrology (3:3:0). Prerequisites: ENGR 1330, CE 3305, or equivalent
Analysis and design methods related to the occurrence and distribution of surface and groundwater; precipitation, infiltration, runoff, and frequency analysis.

Theory and application of hydrologic concepts; learn how to use predictive tools such as charts and computer programs, and apply these tools to the analysis and design of collection and drainage systems. Preparation of a professional report is a component of this course.

Upon completion of this course, students shall have:

  • Read, synthesize, and communicated ideas presented in current and historical technicalliterature.
  • Delineated watersheds from maps and determine common metrics (area, slope, mainchannel length) using digital planimetry.
  • Performed hydrologic computations using JupyterLab, Excel, LibreOffice and other tools, as needed.
  • Performed hydrologic simulation using HEC-HMS.
  • Prepared a professional report of a hydrologic analysis of of a stormwater management system as a member of a small team.
  • This sophomore level course requires sucessful completion of CE 3305 (Engineering Fluid Mechanics) or equivalent; Students will apply computational thinking skills from ENGR 1330 and EGR 1206/7.
